A FORMER news anchor has been honoured for promoting diversity and equal opportunity in the community.

Victorian Multicultural Commission chair Helen Kapalos received the Anti-Defamation Commission Leadership Award last week.

ADC chair Dr Dvir Abramovich said Ms Kapalos’ drive and dedication to making a difference in the community earned her the accolade.

“Through her dedication and service she has inspired others to build strong communities that are open to all people without regard to religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity,” he said.

“Our organisations are natural allies in the battle against the racists, the bigots, the extremists — against all of the haters — who must be confronted wherever and whenever they emerge.”

Ms Kapalos became the chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission last August.

She is an accomplished journalist, presenter and executive producer.

The ADC is Australia’s leading civil rights organisation fighting hatred in all its forms.
