BENTLEIGH Secondary College students have learnt more about the pitfalls of online bigotry and racism.
Almost 200 students from Year 8 took part in the program run by the Caulfieldbased Anti-Defamation Commission, to understand the long lasting effects of their actions online.
Bentleigh Secondary College college Natalie Cumming said the program had taught the students to recognise racism online and call it out.
“Since completing the program I think our students are far more aware of how damaging negative online comments can be,” she said.
Bentleigh Secondary College has become the 300th school to complete the program.
Anti-Defamation Commission chair Dvir Abramovich said at a time of “growing online radicalisation and extremism”, this type of education was needed more than ever.
