A CAULFIELD-based civil rights organisation has teamed up with a bookshop to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to stamping out hate.

Reading Against Hate, an initiative from the Anti-Defamation Commission and Readings, aims to encourage young people to read books that will inspire them to promote respect for equality, human rights and democracy as well as take action to counter hate.
Commission chairman Dvir Abramovich said books had the power to teach civility and kindness and inspire people to combat racism and hatred.

“Our goal is for these books to act as conversation starters so as to foster greater empathy for other cultures, promote the importance of being an ally to those who are suffering discrimination, and offer new avenues and tools to celebrate different identities, ethnicities and faiths.’’

As part of Reading Against Hate, schools who take part in the commission’s Click Against Hate cyber program will be given vouchers to buy books recommended by the commission and Readings.
