The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has welcomed the removal of a number of Holocaust denial books from Amazon Australia that the civil rights organisation called on the company to remove last month in an article published in news.com.au. The books are “Did Six Million Really Die?“, ”The Six Million: Fact or Fiction”, “The Hoax of the Twentieth Century: The Case Against the Presumed Extermination of European Jewry”, “The Myth of the Extermination of the Jews”, “The First Holocaust: Jewish Fund Raising Campaigns with Holocaust Claims During and After World War I”, “ “Auschwitz” The First Gassing: Rumor and Reality”. This is the first time Amazon Australia has taken such action. Other anti-Semitic titles that the ADC urged Amazon Australia to pull off the shelves, have remained.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“We are obviously pleased that Amazon Australia has done the right thing by heeding our call and has removed several of these disturbing items. As we pointed out to Amazon Australia, these repugnant texts were written by virulent anti-Semites and racists who wish to insidiously stoke the embers of intolerance and gain access to the large audience that visits the Amazon website. No company should be profiting from products that promote violence and dehumanization of Jews and others and aid in their normalization. We now call on Amazon Australia to take the extra step of removing the additional books that we have previously urged them to pull, and to conduct a comprehensive review so as to ensure that similar titles that incite and glorify hatred, and which feed the fires of bigotry, are no longer offered for sale. All companies have a moral responsibility to never allow themselves to become partners in such a ghoulish attempt to deny the Holocaust and never become enablers for those who seek to violate the dignity and memory of the victims and survivors of the Nazis.”
