Neo-Nazi group actively recruiting in Toowoomba

MEGAN MASTERS

A HATE group with the slogan “We’re the Hitlers you’ve been waiting for” has begun a recruitment drive in Toowoomba.

The group, Antipodean Resistance, is styled in the manner of Hitler Youth and members put up posters promoting it around the city including St Mary’s College, Queens Park and the Tafe Southwest Queensland campus on Bridge St.

The posters are emblazoned with the Nazi swastika and state “Nazi youth organising in your area”, along with the group’s web page address.

Other posters feature an image of Hitler with the message, “national socialism or nothing”.
The group appears to be organising nationwide after similar campaigns were carried out in Melbourne and at university campuses in Hobart and Sydney.

The group was also behind a poster campaign in the Melbourne CBD area speaking out against same-sex marriage, stating that same-sex marriage enabled pedophilia.

St Mary’s College was targeted by a neo-Nazi group campaigning for members and notoriety. The college condemned the group’s actions and removed the posters.

The Anti-Defamation Commission denounced the escalation of the hate campaign.
ADC chairman Dvir Abramovich said the group was becoming appreciably more agitated, angry and emboldened.

“There is something deeply troubling and unsettling happening in our country with a dramatic surge of white-supremacist presence, as these dangerous bigots are brazenly peddling their explicitly racist and anti-Semitic message,” he stated.

“We are profoundly shocked that such revolting stickers have infiltrated Toowoomba, sowing a message of prejudice and a posing threat to the values of inclusivity and respect we as a community cherish.

“These racists are pushing their online activities to the real world in a very open way, which may result in violence if a confrontation takes place.

“We call on the good people of Toowoomba to say in one voice that there is absolutely is no room for this poisonous conduct and rhetoric in Australia.”

The Chronicle has contacted St Mary’s College and Toowoomba Regional Council for comment.
