THE self-described nationalist brother of senior Liberal frontbencher Nick Wakeling joked about threatening to “bash” him if he didn’t axe the Safe Schools program.

Tim Wakeling calls himself the “former head gas controller” at Auschwitz and says he went to the “school of Holocaust denial” on his Facebook page.

Mr Wakeling regularly shares posts from the United Patriots Front and counts alleged far-Right terrorist Phillip Galea among his Facebook friends.

He has also been photographed at a UPF event alongside its leader, Blair Cottrell, who was last week found guilty of inciting contempt of Muslims for making a video of a mock beheading.

His Facebook profile picture is of Nazi Germany politician Rudolf Hess, one of Adolf Hitler’s right-hand men.

Tim Wakeling’s brother, Nick, is the former Victorian higher education minister and currently the state Opposition’s education spokesman.

When asked about his brother’s posts, the member for Ferntree Gully said: “I firmly reject the views and comments of my brother in the strongest possible way. Unfortunately, my brother and I have very different values and views.”

Responding to a Facebook friend’s comment about the controversial Safe Schools program, Tim Wakeling in June this year said his brother would get rid of the program “no question”, adding he could “guarantee it”. “Plus I threatened him a while ago if he didn’t do it I’d bash the F**k out of him ah it’s good to have a polition (sic) as a brother I can smash him for poor policy but get away with the brotherly love excuse lol.”

The Baillieu and Napthine governments supported Safe Schools, but Nick Wakeling has since vowed to scrap the program after it came under criticism for pushing an ideological agenda.

Asked about his brother’s comments on Safe Schools, Mr Wakeling said: “The Liberal Nationals position on Safe Schools is the product of our values of an education system that focuses on standards and outcomes and the rights of parents to be involved in these aspects of their children’s development.”

Dvir Abramovich, chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, said the Nazi references on Tim Wakeling’s Facebook page were “chilling”.

Caulfield MP David Southwick said his friend Nick Wakeling was “a good friend of Israel and the Jewish community”.
