Groundbreaking schools-based program that fights anti-Semitism and racism celebrates historic milestone

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission’s highly acclaimed and groundbreaking program Click Against Hate, designed to teach children as young as 11 how to counter online anti-Semitism and all forms of hate and bigotry, celebrated an historic milestone when Bentleigh Secondary became its 300th school.  Taught free of charge in 105 primary and secondary schools across Victoria, the government accredited program has experienced remarkable growth since its introduction five years ago and now reaches tens of thousands of students. Before a capacity audience of more than 1000 people, ADC Chair Dvir Abramovich and long-standing supporters Greg and Anne Rosshandler presented Bentleigh Secondary Principal Helen Hiotis with a Certificate of Appreciation for her school’s commitment to the program.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This incredible milestone is a testament to how much schools value this transformative program and the remarkable success we have had in teaching young people how to effectively respond to cyber-hatred and bullying. We recognise that often when students are using social media there are no adults present, so we empower and equip them with practical tools to deal with bigotry and intolerance, and to speak out when they see it happening to others. This powerful life-changing experience is a terrific investment in the future as we create the next-generation of passionate and knowledgeable communal leaders who understand the importance of fighting racism and who will advance our shared mission of making Australia a more inclusive and respectful place. Click Against Hate  is also a dynamic and positive initiative to combat  the sharp rise in anti-Semitism at schools. At a time of growing online radicalisation and extremism, this innovative and dynamic educational program, which addresses this growing threat, is now needed more than ever.
