Melbourne, Australia… The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has praised the United States Congress for including  measures in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Bill that oppose the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign .  The amendments target: “politically motivated actions to boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel and to seek the elimination of politically motivated nontariff barriers on Israeli goods, services, or other commerce imposed on the State of Israel.” In addition, the provisions call for “the elimination of state-sponsored unsanctioned foreign boycotts against Israel or compliance with the Arab League Boycott of Israel by prospective trading partners.”

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“I welcome these important and principled amendments to the Trans-Pacific Partnership bill, which demonstrate the U.S. Congress’s unquestionable defence of Israel at a time when the biased BDS movement, with the alarming and shameful support of several countries, is seeking to defame, isolate and delegitimize Israel on the global stage.  It is our hope that this bipartisan bill will send the unequivocal message that the harmful and unfair economic discrimination against Israel will not be tolerated. It is noteworthy that under this amendment, trading partners in the European Union and elsewhere must reject a boycott of Israeli products in order to do business with the United States. We look forward to President Obama signing the bill into law and hope that other governments will follow suit.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
