The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) welcomed the remarks by Pope Francis in which he decried the “troubling” anti-Semitic movements and violence in Europe and called on Christians to deplore all forms of anti-Semitism and to stand united with the Jewish people. The comments were made to a delegation from the Conference of European Rabbis at the Vatican last week.
Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:
“These statements are reflective of the unequivocal and unflinching stance against anti-Semitism that Pope Francis has adopted since his election. Pope Francis has regularly spoken out about the dangers of religious intolerance and hatred, and has condemned the worrying rise in violence against the Jewish people. It was also heartening to hear Pope Francis declare that the Holocaust “is a warning to present and future generations”. We applaud these courageous and most welcomed comments, and concur with the Pope’s call for greater dialogue between the faiths. We also share in the Pope’s deep concern about the murderous assaults taking place against Christians in the Middle-east.”
