The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has welcomed the news that 93 year-oldOskar Groening Oskar Groening, dubbed the Bookkeeper of Auschwitz, is to stand trial in Germany for the mass murder of 300,000 people during the Holocaust.

Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:

”We welcome the indictment of Oskar Groening and commend the German court for its decision. It is never too late to bring to justice Nazi war criminals and there is no reason to ignore these murderers and their collaborators just because they are elderly. They never showed any sympathy to their victims and they do not deserve ours.  We call on all nations, including the Australian government, to step up their efforts to arrest and prosecute the last surviving henchman of this period responsible for indescribable atrocities during the Holocaust.  These trials not only play a pivotal part in educating the young generation about the Holocaust, but aid in preserving its memory and are crucial in the fight against Holocaust denial, anti-Semitism and racism. Above all, such actions send the message that the victims will never be forgotten, and that the perpetrators, no matter how old they are, will be held accountable and punished for their evil deeds. “
