The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has condemned the sale of new Nazi armbands, emblazoned with the Nazi swastika, at a family market in Ballarat.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“This is very upsetting. It is flat out obscene and outrageous that there are individuals who are using family markets to make money from the sale of Nazi related items that represent the most horrific human suffering in history as well as the ultimate embodiment of racism, prejudice and bigotry. Quite clearly, there are customers for these abhorrent materials that seek to make Hitler’s regime and the systematic murder of six million Jews and millions of others appealing. Those who are trafficking in such vile and hateful memorabilia, which is poisoning our society, are completely out of step with the Australian values of multiculturalism, inclusiveness and decency and we need to directly and publicly tackle this worrying phenomenon. I am very concerned that such perverse items will end up in the wrong hands, namely in the possession of white-supremacists who will use it to promote, celebrate and glorify their vile causes. The ADC will continue its long-standing campaign of turning the spotlight and ostracising those who sell Nazi collectibles and will continue to call for the removal of such sordid items. We call on those who are entrusted with the allocation of stalls at the Ballarat market to do the right thing by monitoring and detecting objects that should not be offered for sale and ensuring that such incidents do not recur in the future.”
