B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission praises German government and OSCE for sponsoring a project to combat anti-Semitism

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading civil and human rights organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has praised the German government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for sponsoring the “Words into Action to Address Anti-Semitism”, a three year initiative which aims at countering anti-Semitism in countries that are members of the OSCE. The project will promote effective measures to ensure Jewish communities are safe, deliver educational programs about anti-Semitism and foster partnerships to combat the worrying surge in Jewish-hatred.

Dr. Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“Clearly, the German government and the OSCE have acknowledged that the dramatic surge in anti-Semitism across Europe is a major threat to its security. This initiative, with its long-term strategic focus and educational outreach at the grassroots level, is another important step to address this growing menace.  Jewish communities across Europe have been subjected to frightening levels of incitement, vilification and violent assaults, and every tool and mechanism must be utilized by to raise awareness of this urgent issue and to meaningfully fight back against the tsunami of anti-Semitism. Only then, will Europe’s Jews begin to feel more secure. We applaud the German government for its funding of this effort and hope that this critical effort yields the desired results and impact.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
