One of the world’s great Jewish leaders to deliver the ADC-Gandel Oration 2016

One of the world’s great Jewish leaders will deliver the 2016 Anti-Defamation Commission-Gandel Oration in Melbourne on August 15 and in Sydney on August 18.

Daniel Mariaschin, Executive Vice President of B’nai B’rith International will speak on “The evil of modern anti-Semitism, and the dark forces behind it”

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“The ADC and Gandel Philanthropy are tremendously honoured to host Dan Mariaschin, one of the world’s great Jewish leaders and sought after commentators. Deeply admired and respected for his remarkable service to the Jewish people and to Israel, few can match the wide-ranging experience and knowledge of Dan Mariaschin, who is never afraid to “tell it like it is.” In what promises to be a breathtaking and memorable occasion, Dan will share with the audience his unique and powerful insights on the dangers of modern anti-Semitism as well as fascinating stories from his unmatched global perspective. In many ways, our mission of countering anti-Semitism and hatred, and promoting civil rights, is embodied in the inspiring and commanding work of Dan Mariaschin, who has spent many decades advancing human rights and protecting Jewish communities worldwide. This oration, marking our 34th, is made possible only because of the incredible and steadfast generosity and vision of John and Pauline Gandel who have enabled the ADC to bring speakers of the highest calibre to Australia. Our last three orations were sold out weeks in advance, and I have no doubt that this will be an enlightening and thought-provoking event that is not to be missed.”

Executive Vice President of B’nai B’rith International Dan Mariaschin also serves as director of B’nai B’rith’s Center for Human Rights and Public Policy and has met with countless heads of state, prime ministers, foreign ministers, influential members of the media and clerical leaders. He was a member of the U.S. delegation to the International Conference on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research, and the B’nai B’rith delegation to the State Department’s 1998 Washington Conference On Holocaust-Era Assets.  In 2003 Mr. Mariaschin served as part of the U.S. delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) conference on anti-Semitism in Vienna.

In recognition of his tireless work in Central and Eastern Europe, Mr. Mariaschin received the Cultural Pluralism Award from the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad. He has also received state decorations from the presidents of Latvia, Lithuania and Romania, and the Golden Bough decoration from the Foreign Ministry of Bulgaria. He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of New Hampshire and received the American Jewish Communal Leadership Award from Brandeis University.
