B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission lauds U.S Senate Resolution condemning anti-Semitism

February 28, 2015

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has lauded the leadership shown by U.SIsreali flag 2 Senator Robert Menendez and  52 other senators in sponsoring a bi-partisan resolution which condemns anti-Semitism and which urges the American government to collaborate with the European Union,  European governments and European organisations to counter the alarming spike in anti-Semitic acts and sentiments. The resolution follows the intensification of terrorist assaults, murder and violence against Jewish individuals and communities across Europe. The resolution recommends a series of concrete steps including the appointment of senior-level special envoys to fight and monitor anti-Semitism in the region, national strategies by training law enforcement officers, and ensuring critical data is collected.  The resolution has received support from B’nai B’rith International.

Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:

“During this difficult and traumatic period for the Jewish people, it is tremendously pleasing and heartening to see the U.S Senate take a moral and brave stance through this bi-partisan resolution. We applaud the leadership and resolve shown by Senators Robert Menendez, Mark Kirk, Barbara Mikulski, and Marco Rubio in spearheading this much needed and timely measure, and call on the Senate to quickly pass this resolution.  It is our hope that European leaders commit to working with the USA and other governments around the world, including the Australian government, to stem the increasing tide of inexcusable hatred, harassment and violent attacks against the Jewish people and to enhance their personal security. For Jewish communities across Europe that are constantly feeling besieged, it would be gratifying to know that their governments and countries around the world are determined to speak out and  stand up for their well-being by making this issue a top priority, and by marshalling all necessary resources to keep them safe and free from intolerance and persecution.”
