B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission hails U.S Senate action against the Boycott, Divestments and Sanctions movement

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has praised the U.S Senate’s Appropriations Committee for passing a bill that seeks to counter the discriminatory Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The Combating BDS Act of 2016 permits state and local governments to withhold public funds from entities that are involved the BDS campaign against Israel.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This is another important measure in the global fight against the pernicious BDS campaign and a dramatic defeat for those who wish to delegitimize and isolate Israel. The fact that this bill was passed by both Democrats and Republicans demonstrates that U.S lawmakers are united in sending the unmistakable message that any attempt to single out Israelis and the Jewish state for discriminatory and hateful treatment will not be tolerated. The BDS campaign traffics in bigotry and anti-Semitism, and does not contribute in any productive way to the promotion of peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians. We applaud the U.S Senate for declaring in one voice that it is the duty of all nations to take a strong stance against the growing defamation of Israel and to do all that is possible to combat the hypocritical and destructive BDS.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
