B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission deplores comments by Al-Taqwa College principal that Islamic State is a scheme by Israel and America to control oil in the Middle East

March 23, 2015

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has denounced comments by OmarAL TAKWA Hallak, principal of Al-Taqwa College, Victoria’s largest Islamic school that IS was a scheme by Israel and America to control oil in the Middle East. The ADC also welcomed comments by Victoria’s Education Minister James Merlino that those comments were “dangerous” and “reckless” and that “The worst thing you can do is put reckless and dangerous ideas into their heads”

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission issued the following statement:

“It is sad that students have been exposed to this wild, virulently hateful conspiracy theory, which blames Israel and the US for the horrific acts of ISIS. No school principal should be promoting such horrendous and irresponsible claims and poisoning young minds. There is always the danger that this type of ugly rhetoric will go viral and gain traction among those who may believe such anti-Semitic propaganda. I am concerned that this could potentially lead to incitement and violence against the Jewish community. We therefore call on all leaders to unreservedly rebuke these repulsive and noxious statements and ensure that students are given the true facts.”
