B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission denounces the spraying of swastikas in Bondi Beach

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading civil and human rights organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has denounced the spraying of 15 swastikas on a footpath, bus shelter and poles in Bondi beach, Sydney.

Dr. Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We condemn this cowardly and abhorrent display of intolerance which has no place in Australia. This craven vandalism is a distressing reminder that prejudice still remains strong and that it is vital that we continue the battle against the increasing problem of anti-Semitism and the threat of white-Supremacists. Doubtless, this is a repulsive assault on people of all faiths and ethnic origins since the swastika is a universal and enduring symbol of racism and xenophobia, and still manages to generate fear and intimidation among those communities and individuals targeted. At such times, it is critical that the entire community stands up and speaks out against the virus of discrimination and religious vilification. I call on all leaders to unreservedly and publicly denounce such wanton and sickening acts of hate and to declare in one voice “’Not in our nation’”.

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
