B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission decries the vandalising of Nowra war graves with swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading civil and human rights organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has denounced the vandalising of 9 graves in the Nowra War Cemetery with swatikas and anti-Semitic slogans.

Dr. Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We deplore this disturbing act of bigotry that insults the dead and threatens the living, and which is an affront to the community at large. We can imagine the hurt and revulsion that this crime has caused to the families of those buried in the cemetery. This desecration sends a clear message that there is still much work to do in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and prejudice. These types of cowardly attacks generate fear and a feeling of vulnerability. At such times, we urge all Australians to speak out and to declare that such hate-filled actions are unacceptable. It is also our hope that the police will identify those responsible and that they face the full extent of the law.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
