B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission decries anti-gay graffiti targeting Greens candidate in Higgins

Today, Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, Australia’s leading organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, issued the following statement in response to the anti-gay graffiti directed against Greens candidate Jason Ball in Higgins:

“In the shadow of the heartbreaking Orlando massacre, it is profoundly saddening to witness such hateful rhetoric.  This cowardly vandalism has no place in Australia and violates our fundamental values of decency, acceptance and respect. The LGBTIQ community is a vital part of the diverse and multicultural fabric of Australia, and it’s crucial that we not only take a stand and speak out on bias, but that we redouble our efforts in educating about the dangers and consequences of such unchecked prejudice. The ADC will continue to be a loud, clear and consistent voice in the fight against intolerance and discrimination, and stands firmly with Jason Ball. We call on all leaders to vigorously declare that such bigotry is not welcome here and that together we will reject destructive, hurtful expressions.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
