B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission condemns rejection by Amnesty International-UK of a resolution to campaign against anti-Semitism in the UK

April 24, 2015

magen davidThe B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has denounced the decision by Amnesty International-UK to reject a motion tabled at its Annual General Meeting that would have supported a campaign against the increase in anti-Semitism in Britain and would have lobbied the government to tackle the rise in attacks. This was the only resolution to be voted down during the whole conference.

Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:

“It is shameful and outrageous that at a time when British and European anti-Semitism is escalating, and deadly terrorist attacks and violence against Jews have reached chilling levels, that the world’s most visible human rights body refuses to tackle anti-Semitism head on. This is a disturbing period that requires all human rights activists and organisations to demonstrate that the Jewish people can rely on their support and solidarity in the fight to defeat this scourge. Sadly, Amnesty International never misses an opportunity to lambast Israel, showing its bias and skewed perspective in the deplorable reports that it regularly issues. Amnesty International has a long history of rushing to judge and censure Israel while disregarding the facts and the threats that Israel faces. One would have hoped that on this one occasion Amnesty International would have done the right thing, but this offensive decision shows that it cannot be counted in the battle against Jewish-hatred”.
