B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission condemns decision to set up a travelling zoo on a site of a mass execution site in the Ukraine

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading civil and human rights organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has condemned the decision by the city of Kovel to grant a travelling zoo permission to set up on a mass execution site where thousands of Jews were massacred during the Holocaust

Dr. Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“It’s hard to express in words how enraged and upset we are by this obscenity, as I’m sure are the survivors, their families, and world Jewry. This is an insult to the memory of the thousands of Jews who were exterminated on this site, and dishonours the six million Jewish victims and non-Jewish victims who perished at the hands of Hitler’s demonic regime.  Such sites should serve as places of solemn contemplation and reflection, and should be preserved so as to teach future generations about the horrors of the Holocaust and about their country’s dark past. We urge the local council to reverse its granting of the permit, and if they refuse, for the Lithuanian government to intervene and to prevent this offensive act from taking place.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
