B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission condemns anti-Semitic, White supremacist flyer at The University of Melbourne

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has condemned an anti-Semitic, white Supremacist flyer which has appeared in recent days at The University of Melbourne. The flyer, featuring a Nazi swastika, accuses the Jewish community of being responsible for bringing in ‘undesirables’ portrayed as maggots, and calls on immigrants, described in racist slurs, to get out so as to keep Australia white. The Neo-Nazi group taking credit for  distributing these materials is based in Melbourne.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We are deeply unsettled by this frightening incitement and vilification. This unabashedly anti-Semitic and racist flyer has no place at universities, and  it is worrying that young people have been exposed to such a hateful and despicable message which violates the campus climate that is welcoming and respectful for all.  We would not be surprised if those targeted by such disturbing speech will feel unsafe and scared. It reminds us that virulent expressions of extremism and bigotry against immigrants and minorities are alive and well, and that white-supremacists are continuously trying to spread intolerance and recruit members to their warped cause. Such behaviour poses a threat to the values of  inclusivity and respect we as a community cherish, and that we must do all in our power to reject this abhorrent rhetoric whenever and wherever it surfaces.”

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
