B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission applauds Governor Chris Christie for signing anti-BDS legislation

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading civil and human rights organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has praised Governor Chris Christie for signing into a law a bill that prohibits any public body of the State of New Jersey to enter into business relationships with any commercial body or organization that is boycotting Israel or cooperating with BDS.  The legislation states that, “It is important to the economic well-being of New Jersey that persons or entities conducting commercial trade and doing business in the State do not engage in boycotts of a legitimate and viable partner with whom New Jersey can enjoy open trade contracting. Therefore, it is in the best interest of this State that a statutory prohibition be enacted to prohibit the investment of public employee retirement funds in companies boycotting Israel.”

Dr. Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“At a time when the biased BDS movement, with the alarming and shameful support of several countries, is seeking to defame, isolate and delegitimize Israel on the global stage we welcome and appreciate Chris Christie’s vigorous and unquestionable defence of the Jewish state. This decision is a critically important step in the efforts to combat and disrupt the hateful BDS and its vicious aim of marginalising and vilifying Israel and sends the resounding message that the unfair economic discrimination against the Jewish state will not be tolerated. Such measures prove what a valuable and cherished friend the United States is to Israel in this fight and we urge other leaders to follow suit and to stare down and reject the malicious tactics of the BDS.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
