B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission applauds Chancellor Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union party resolution that BDS is anti-Semitism

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has applauded the resolution passed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union party that the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement is “nothing other than coarse anti-Semitism.” In its statement, the CDU, noted “Who today under the flag of the BDS movement calls to boycott Israeli goods and services speaks the same language in which people were called to not buy from Jews. That is nothing other than coarse anti-Semitism…The CDU will decisively oppose every hostile action that Israel faces.”

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“At a time when the global campaign to demonise and delegitimize Israel is  at an all-time high, this moral and clear-eyed resolution by Germany’s largest party is to welcomed.

We applaud and commend Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Christian Democratic Union for have called the BDS for what it is— patent anti-Semitism— and for opposing this reprehensible movement. We have noted again and again that it is vital that leaders stand up to the resurgence of the oldest form of hatred in the world and take concrete actions to combat this cancerous scourge.”

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
