The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has commended the Canadian Parliament for overwhelmingly passing a motion formally condemning the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel.  The motion calls on the Canadian government to, “condemn any and all attempts by Canadian organizations, groups or individuals to promote the BDS movement, both here at home and abroad”, and states that the BDS movement “promotes the demonization and delegitimization of the State of Israel.”

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We are enormously pleased with this important and highly principled motion which demonstrates the Canadian parliament’s unquestionable defence of Israel at a time when the BDS movement is shamefully seeking to malign, isolate and vilify the Jewish state on the global stage. This is not about disagreeing with a specific government policy, but is about delegitimizing and waging an economic war against the only democracy in the Middle-east. The BDS campaign traffics in bigotry and anti-Semitism, and does not contribute in any productive way to the promotion of peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians. We applaud the Canadian parliament’s overarching message that it is the duty of all nations to take a strong stance against the growing defamation of Israel and to do all that is possible to defeat the hypocritical and destructive BDS.  It is our hope that this motion will send the unequivocal message that the harmful and unfair discrimination against Israel will not be tolerated.”
