ADC welcomes statement by The Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations condemning Holocaust denial on Australian campuses

The ADC has welcomed the statement by The Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) denouncing the distribution of Holocaust denial flyers on Australian campuses, labelling these incidents a form of hate speech and calling on universities and students groups to stand up to anti-Semitism.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This is an extremely important statement that sends the forceful and timely message that Holocaust denial will not be tolerated in our institutions of higher learning. We all have a vital role in confronting the recent escalation in white-supremacist and neo-Nazi activity on university campuses, targeting students and staff. The most effective response in countering such dangerous hate is to call out racism and prejudice whenever and wherever they surface, and it is essential that groups like CAPS play an essential part in this battle. We extend out appreciation to CAPS and commend their clear and principled stand. The moral leadership of denouncing anti-Semitism as unacceptable must continue across the country and we urge other associations to follow in the footsteps of CAPS.”
The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
