“We welcome this historic and consequential legislation which represents a substantive step forward for those who have been pursuing equal rights, dignity and individual liberty and freedom from all forms of discrimination. The Yes vote in the plebiscite and the passage of this bill mean that every Australian citizen is now entitled to the same rights and benefits no matter what their sexual orientation. The Australian parliament has affirmed equal protection for all, and the ADC, which remains steadfast in its commitment to securing justice for all, welcomes one of the most significant civil rights decisions in our nation’s history.”
