ADC welcomes decision by Swiss Council of States to end government funds to groups involved with anti-Semitism

The ADC, Australia’s leading civil rights organisation countering hatred in all its forms, has welcomed the adoption by the Swiss Council of States, the upper House in the Swiss Parliament, of a bill that stops any funding to NGO’s that are involved in incitement to hate and anti-Semitic activity. According to reports, the Swiss branch of the BDS movement condemned the vote.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This is another significant blow to the BDS movement whose stated goal is to eliminate the Jewish State by defaming and demonising Israel as a rogue, pariah state. For the first time, a European state has passed such a law and this represents a fundamental game-changer in the battle to counter this evil hatred. As the recurrence of Jewish-hatred is sweeping across Europe, this bill makes it clear that any NGO that engages in anti-Semitic activity will not receive any financial support from the Swiss government. It is out hope that other governments adopt similar laws that effectively combat discrimination directed against the state of Israel and the Jewish community.
