ADC: ‘Triple JJJ showed poor judgement in interviewing white-supremacist who organised Charlottesville rally

The ADC has expressed its disappointment at the decision by Triple J’s Hack program to interview a white nationalist, one of the organisers of the Charlottesville rally in which one woman was killed.

ADC Chairman, Dr Dvir Abramovich, issued the following statement:

“It was clearly poor judgement by JJJ to give this bigot the megaphone to spread his dangerous message. There are no two sides to this story, and this troubling decision by the program will only add to the normalisation and mainstreaming of ugly incitement and disturbing rhetoric that must be denounced. White-supremacists and neo-Nazis are feeling emboldened and look for every opportunity to insert themselves into the public square, using all available platforms, including public radio, to reach a wider audience. There was no rationale for giving air time to this individual to promote his vile cause and taxpayer dollars should not have been used to allow a racist and an anti-Semite to appear on this respectable forum. This is the time that demands moral leadership by everyone in confronting this unprecedented explosion of hatred and violent extremism, and on that front, the hosts of the show have failed us all. The ADC is ready to meet with JJJ and partner with them in the effort to combat the cancer of prejudice.”
