ADC statement on Melbourne CBD attack

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), issued the following statement in response to the Bourke St Mall attack which claimed the lives of five people, including 10 year-old Tahlia Hakin and a three-month-old baby, and left more than 30 injured.

“This is a black day of grief and mourning for all Australians, and we are deeply shocked and horrified by this act of heinous violence. The killing of a child deserves special condemnation and leaves one speechless. Through tears and broken hearts, we extend our profound condolences to the families of the victims, the family of Thalia Hakin, and pray for the speedy and full recovery of the wounded. As we offer comfort to each other, today, we are all Victorians.”

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
