ADC disappointed with Margaret Court’s decision to boycott Qantas Airlines because of its support for same-same marriage

The ADC has expressed its disappointment at comments by tennis great Margaret Court that will she stop flying Qantas because of the airline’s and its CEO’s Alan Joyce support of same-sex marriage.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“While individuals are of course entitled to harbour different views about marriage equality, employing divisive, hurtful language and boycotting any company that supports marriage for the LGBTI community is deeply troubling and coarsens the public conversation about this consequential issue. We must all remain steadfast in our commitment to civility and respect during this historic debate and to disavow any conduct that singles out and targets any group for contempt. Ms Court’s insensitive and sad remarks are a cause of great concern especially since as a former sportsperson she is expected vigorously represent the cherished values of tolerance and inclusivity. We urge her to withdraw her threat to no longer travel on Qantas Airlines and to carefully consider her future rhetoric on this subject.”
