ADC denounces Nazi graffiti in Windsor, Melbourne

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has decried the defacement of a fence with the Nazi Swastika in the suburb of Windsor, Melbourne.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:

“This act of vandalism which violates our community’s values of acceptance and respect for all people is absolutely deplorable.  The Nazi swastika is a universal symbol of hate that represents unbridled evil that led to genocide, and is aimed at traumatising and instilling fear within religious, ethnic and cultural groups. Whenever such cowardly and despicable incidents happen, there is a chilling emotional impact on community members.  This is a sad and distressing reminder of the lengths people will go to express their prejudice and that Melbourne is not immune to this kind of threatening racism. It is our collective responsibility to be vigilant and to marshal all our resources to fight this kind of sickening Xenophobia. We urge community leaders and residents to come together to make their voices heard and to express their outrage at this troubling act of intolerance.”

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
