ADC deeply troubled by Middle-East Paris Peace Conference

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission  (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has expressed its deep concern about the upcoming Paris Middle East peace conference, scheduled for January 15th.  An initiative of French President François Hollande it will feature representatives from 70 countries.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This summit is a setback for peace, and will serve as another platform for the international community to bash Israel and to embolden the Palestinian leadership to continue with its rejectionist stance of avoiding direct negotiations with Israel. It is not unreasonable to assume that following this gathering, we will see another damaging and biased U.N. Security Council resolution which will unfairly single out Israel for censure and place undue pressure on the Jewish state to take risky, one sided concessions. This is not the way to progress lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians and harms future prospects. Instead, the UN, Australia and other world leaders should encourage President Abbas to stop inciting his people to murder Israelis and Jews, and to embrace bilateral, face-to-face talks with Israel without any preconditions. It is our hope that the Australian government cancels any planned participation in this ill-advised meeting. “

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
