ADC condemns the deadly attack on a mosque in Quebec, Canada

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has deplored the horrific shooting at the Quebec Islamic Cultural Center in Canada that left six people dead and eight wounded. Two of the alleged shooters have been arrested.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We are shocked at this brutal, repugnant outburst of violence, and are profoundly saddened by the murder of the six parishioners.  Attacking people in their house of prayer is an attack on pluralism and on democratic society, as well as an attack on the right of people to gather and pray in accordance with their beliefs. This depraved act was directed at all religious groups, and at this time of grief we must stand united against this evil. The ADC extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and wishes those who were injured a full and speedy recovery. This senseless assault  on innocents reminds us  that we are all entrusted with  the duty  to confront the threat of  terrorism and that we must strengthen our resolve to defeat extremist, hateful ideologies that can strike at anytime, anywhere.”

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
