The ADC, Australia’s leading civil rights organisation countering hatred in all its forms, has condemned an anti-Semitic flyer that has been distributed throughout Perth claiming Jewish people constitute the majority of rich people and calling for ‘Jewish privilege’ to be smashed. A concerned individual brought this to the ADC’s attention. The Socialist Alternative in Perth has denied printing and disseminating the flyers.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“These flyers are a sad reminder that blatant and disturbing anti-Jewish bigotry is alive and well in Australia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms these unabashed anti-Semitic posters that incite to violence and traffic in dangerous stereotypes, conspiracy theories and fear. The ugly, age-old slur and taint of Jews as rich, powerful and privileged has been used throughout history to provoke hatred against the Jewish people and has often resulted in murder and tragedy. We call on all leaders to vigorously denounce such hateful rhetoric and hope that that those who are promoting this bigoted campaign are exposed for spreading the virus of prejudice.”
