The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), has welcome the conviction of former Serbian leader Radovan Karadzic for Genocide and War Crimes for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre that claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people. Karadzic was found guilty of nine war crimes, including genocide, extermination, murder, acts of terrorism, deportation and other inhumane acts, and sentence to 40 years’ prison by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“This powerful and important ruling sends the message that no matter how much time has passed those who are responsible for war crimes and genocide will be held accountable and brought to justice. After more than 20 years since the atrocities in Srebrenica, we hope that this verdict brings some comfort to the many families of Karadzic’s victims. This case is another small measure of justice for the victims, and is a warning that other perpetrators of mass murder and crimes against humanity will be apprehended and will be sentenced for their evil deeds. We can never be silent in the face of atrocities taking place around the world today in places such as the Sudan, Iraq and Syria, and urge the international community to ensure that ‘Never Again’ is not just an empty promise.”
The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
