The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has welcomed the decision by the UN to conduct a review of any anti-Semitic and anti-Israel books offered at its official store in Geneva. Some of the texts to be reviewed include How I Stopped Being a Jew, Israel’s War Against the Palestinians, and The Punishment of Gaza.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:
“At a time of surging anti-Semitism and chilling assaults against Jews worldwide, this decision comes at the right time. Words do matter and are often used to foster a climate of incitement, death and terror. It is incomprehensible that an organisation whose core principles are the promotion of human rights, peace, tolerance and equality, should encourage the mainstreaming of hatemongering, anti-Jewish thought and defamation through the sale of such offensive literature. We hope that at the conclusion of this administrative review that any one-sided texts that target and malign Israel and Jews are withdrawn and appropriate measures are taken to keep similar items from being offered again. ”
