The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), has commended the American Anthropological Association (AAA) for rejecting a resolution to boycott Israeli academic institutions that was proposed last November at its annual meeting. The motion was voted down by the AAA’s full membership in an online vote. It was reported that 51 percent of the AAA’s eligible members voted, the largest turnout in the organization’s history.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“This is a significant setback for the BDS movement and a blow to the solar plexus of anti-Israel advocates who are trying to infect the academic world with their false and manifestly unjust anti-Israel agenda. We applaud the membership of the AAA that spoke up for the cherished principles of academic integrity and for the free exchange of ideas. Rejecting this discriminatory and one-sided resolution sends the unequivocal message that distorted motions that single out the Jewish state for opprobrium will not be tolerated by educators, and that there are principled scholars who will fight against prejudice and defamation. We hope that other academic associations follow suit and repel any attempt to delegitimize and isolate Israeli academia as well as make it clear that reason and truth will always triumph over hypocrisy and hateful double standards.”
The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
