The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has Hillary Clinton’s strong re-affirmation of her opposition to BDS, the boycott, sanctions and divestment movement against Israel. In a letter to U.S. Jewish leaders on the eve of the United Methodist Church General Conference, Clinton stated, “I believe that BDS seeks to punish Israel and dictate how the Israelis and Palestinians should resolve the core issues of their conflict. This is not the path to peace. We need to make countering BDS a priority, and we need to work together – across party lines and with a diverse array of voices – to reverse this trend with information and advocacy, and fight back against further attempts to isolate and delegitimize Israel.” United Methodists members, who  are set to convene in Portland will consider  four resolutions that ask the church to divest from Caterpillar, Motorola and Hewlett-Packard — companies that are alleged to profit from Israel’s “occupation of Palestinian lands” — and end any other investments that relate to Israeli settlements.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chair of The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), issued the following statement:

“We applaud Hillary Clinton for once again standing up speaking out against the destructive and hypocritical anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Her public condemnation of the BDS is vitally important in the collective struggle to counter and disrupt this movement and its reprehensible aim of isolating and maligning Israel.  We wholeheartedly concur with Clinton’s statement that, “This is not the path to peace. We need to make countering BDS a priority, and we need to work together – across party lines and with a diverse array of voices – to reverse this trend with information and advocacy, and fight back against further attempts to isolate and delegitimize Israel.” It is essential that political leaders stand firm against the BDS and its vicious tactics to delegitimize the state of Israel.  The only pathway to a sustainable peace between Israelis and Palestinians is a return to bilateral negotiations, not the increasing defamation of the Jewish state that is employed by the biased and dangerous BDS campaign.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
