The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has welcomed the decision by Spain’s Supreme Court to award Israel’s Ariel University over $100,000 in damages after it ruled that Spain’s Housing Ministry illegally expelled 15 Ariel University architecture students from a scientific competition.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This ruling is a welcomed legal and symbolic victory for justice, and a dramatic setback for the international BDS movement which is determined to demonise and isolate the Jewish state.  It shows that efforts to malign and target Israel can be defeated and we are glad that the Spanish Housing Ministry has admitted that excluding Ariel University was wrong. At a time when the EU is introducing misguided and unfair measures to label Israeli products, this important decision by Spain’s highest court sends a very clear message that anti-Semitism and discrimination will not be tolerated in Spain. As we have previously stated, European governments should be encouraging Palestinians to stop their wave of murderous violence against Israel and get to the negotiating table, instead of delegitimizing the only democracy in the Middle-east.”
