June 12 2015

ADC Gandel Oration 2011 071The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) today praised retiring member of the Canadian Parliament and former ADC-Gandel Orator Irwin Cotler for his tireless work in the fight against anti-Semitism, radicalism and injustice.

ADC Chairman, Dr Dvir Abramovich, issued the following statement:

“Irwin Cotler, whom we had the pleasure of hosting as the ADC-Gandel Orator in 2010, has been an outstanding and staunch warrior in the fight against anti-Semitism, bigotry and injustice.  Throughout his distinguished political career, serving in various roles, most notably as Justice Minister, and as chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Anti- Semitism, Mr Cotler has been on the frontlines, countering the defamation of the Jewish people and Israel, and championing the cause of human rights. A great humanitarian, we applaud Mr Cotler for his tremendous courage and tenacity in building a better world, and for standing up for the values of freedom and democracy everywhere. We are confident that Mr Cotler, though he is retiring, will continue to share his talents and wisdom as a mentor for future leaders who will follow in his footsteps. At a time of increasing hate, intolerance and racial and religious violence, we need Irwin Cotler to remain active and to inspire us with his deeds, principles and his unflappable commitment to ending prejudice and discrimination.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
