B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission praises Congressional passage of Oversight Bill for Pending Iran Nuclear Deal

May 10, 2015

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has lauded the bipartisan Senate vote giving Congress an oversight role in assessing the nuclear agreement the US and its allies are currently negotiating with Iran. The U.S. and its partners have until the end of June to reach a comprehensive pact on Iran’s nuclear program.

ADC Chairman, Dr Dvir Abramovich, issued the following statement:

“Given that Iran poses a clear and pressing threat to the Mid-East and to global security, we welcome this decisive vote that ensures that Congress extensively reviews any nuclear agreement before it’s signed. Given the high stakes, and the many unanswered questions and troubling uncertainties regarding this deal, Congress has a pivotal role to play before any framework agreement is reached between Tehran and the P5+1, and before any decision is made about lifting sanctions against Iran. The ADC has repeatedly voiced its concerns about the effectiveness of this proposed agreement to curb the Iranian regime’s determination to continue uranium enrichment, and has noted Teheran’s record of evading inspections. It is our hope that the U.S. House of Representatives passes the bill, thereby sending a clear message that the USA and the international community are committed to preventing a nuclear-armed Iran.”
