B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission denounces Health Services Union for anti-Israeli resolution and BDS endorsement

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading civil and human rights organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has condemned the Health Services Union No. 4 Branch for passing a motion that endorses the BDS campaign and which blames Israel for the continuing deadlock in negotiations.

Dr. Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“This is a troubling motion from the HSU should be condemned. The HUS has decided to promote a fervently vicious and one-sided resolution that unfairly lays of all the blame at the feet of Israel and which seeks to isolate and demonize the Jewish state. We demand an immediate clarification from the HSU whether this resolution means that they will direct their members to stop using all Israeli bio-medical equipment and technology that is saving lives every day and if banned   from use, would endanger and harm the well-being of many Australians.  It is alarming that the HSU, rather than building bridges between communities, and fostering important dialogue, has chosen the path of divisiveness which runs counter to our values. We call on all HUS members to reject this misguided and counterproductive resolution.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
