B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission welcomes decision by Harper Collins to remove from sale its Collins Middle East Atlas that wiped Israel off the map and pulp all remaining copies.

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has welcomed the apology by Harper Collins for omitting Israel from its Collins Middle East Atlas and the company’s pledge to reprint the map in a new version, which this time will include Israel. The ADC is also pleased that Harper Collins will remove from sale the offensive copy and pulp all remaining stock.
Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission issued the following statement:
“By apologising for their exclusion of Israel and by promising to remove the objectionable and offensive Collins Middle East Atlas that wiped Israel off the map, Harper Collins did the right thing. We are pleased by the company’s assurance that it will reprint the map in a new version, which this time will rightly include Israel. Educational texts must adhere to the highest standards of truth and accuracy and must present students with information that is free of political bigotry and prejudice and which does not provide credibility to a malicious narrative in which Israel does not exist. Young people in the Middle-East deserve to have access to materials that contain accurate facts and details rather than the false and harmful accounts about Israel that are far too common in this region. We hope that this sad and disappointing incident is not repeated and that Harper Collins and other publishers learn from this error of judgement.”
