The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has extended its warm congratulations to Linda Dessau on her appointment as Victoria’s first Female Governor and the First Jewish Australian to assume this eminent role.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“We are delighted and justifiably proud. This event is an historic occasion for the Victorian community and a moment that we should all celebrate. With this outstanding appointment, Premier Daniel Andrews has broken new ground and for this he deserves much praise. This appointment is a true testament to the values of opportunity, inclusiveness and multiculturalism that are a hallmark of our fine state, and re-affirms that no matter what your background or faith is, you can still achieve high office in Australia. Indeed, Governor Dessau is living proof of our nation’s commitment to equality and diversity. I am confident that Governor Dessau, with an exemplary and proven judicial track record, intellectual fortitude and a strong commitment to civil rights and culture, will serve the Victorian people with great distinction and will inspire generations of young people for many years to come. The ADC extends its warm congratulations and Mazal Tov to Governor Dessau and her family, and wishes her wisdom and strength as she takes on this enormous responsibility. We look forward to working with Governor Dessau to promote and to advance the values and aspirations that we share for the betterment of our society.”
