B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission condemns Nazi graffiti at Caulfield Park restrooms

November 3, 2016

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has decried the defacement of a restroom in Caulfield Park with Nazi swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti, such as “Achtung Jude” (“Watch out Jews”),  and the words ‘SS’.

ADC Chairman, Dr Dvir Abramovich, issued the following statement:

“This repugnant Nazi graffiti is an assault on all Victorians and was meant to frighten, traumatise and intimidate anyone walking into this public restroom, including children. The Nazi swastika is a universal symbol of hate that represents pure evil and whenever such cowardly and despicable incidents happen, there is a chilling emotional damage on all community members. This is a sad and distressing reminder of the lengths people will go to express their unbridled bigotry and serves as a disturbing wake-up call that anti-Semitism and racism are on the rise.  This type of intolerance has no place in Australia and runs counter to our country’s values of acceptance and respect. The ADC encourages anyone with information to come forward, and it is our hope that the perpetrators of this crime will be swiftly brought to justice.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
