The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has condemned a violent attack on a Jewish man in Melbourne. According to an Australian Jewish News report, the offender allegedly punched the  22 year-old in the neck, and shouted anti-Jewish slurs.

Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We are appalled and distressed by this attack. It is shocking that a visibly identifiable Jew was subjected to an assault as he was returning from Shabbat services. Such crimes have a unique impact on the victims and their communities and are particularly troubling. No one should ever be singled out for physical assault because of their appearance or their religious beliefs, and we trust that the police will vigorously  investigate this bias-motivated crime and punish the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law. There is no place in our community or our country for such violence”
