The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has commended the Council of Paris for endorsing two resolutions opposing the BDS movement. In adopting the resolutions, The Paris municipality specifically named the BDS movement, and stated that it opposed “all attempts to isolate Israel among the nations”, reiterated the city’s “commitment to the promotion of a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israel conflict”, and condemned all efforts to promote the boycott of Israel. The resolutions were submitted by the Socialist-led coalition of Mayor Anne Hidalgo and by other center-right members of the City Council, and reaffirm French law that deems BDS against Israel illegal.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“This is a powerful setback for the international BDS movement and another dramatic step in the efforts to combat and disrupt the BDS campaign and its malicious objective of marginalising and vilifying Israel. At a time when the EU is introducing misguided and unfair measures to label Israeli products, we applaud the Council of Paris for its strong and principled action which conveys the unmistakable message that anti-Semitism and discrimination against Israel will not be tolerated in France. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is highly complex, and embracing cultural and economic vandalism against Israel will not cultivate real dialogue, cooperation and reconciliation between the two parties. Such hostile partisanship only fans the flame of division and hatred and we urge other councils and organisations to follow suit and to reject the vicious tactics of the BDS movement.”
