ADC welcomes new Facebook measures to reduce racist and harmful advertisements that target individuals

The ADC has praised Facebook for introducing a new policy that will require their staff to manually examine and review advertisements singling out and targeting individuals on the basis of religion, race, ethnicity and social issues.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We are glad to see that Facebook will now apply greater scrutiny on advertisers in an effort to clamp down on ads that target individuals. As we have said on numerous occasions, social media giants like Facebook must do everything in their power to prevent the posting of materials that stoke the embers of social division, tensions and intolerance. Over the last few years, we have witnessed the blatant exploitation and manipulation of this platform by groups attempting to promote their bigoted and racist agenda. Online hate and bullying is a growing problem, and it is out hope that this higher standard and additional oversight will reduce the proliferation of cyber incitement and vilification.”
