ADC shocked and horrified by reports of Syrian government using crematoria to dispose of bodies

The ADC, Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has registered its profound shock at reports that the Syrian government is using crematoria to burn the bodies of victims executed in the Saydnaya Military Prison. According to the US State Department, the Syrian regime may have built the crematorium to conceal its mass atrocities.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“One is hard pressed, in the light of these shattering revelations, not to recall the Nazi atrocities perpetrated against the Jewish people during the Holocaust. The world must learn from its past mistakes when it failed to immediately and decisively stop the Third Reich, an inaction which led to the extermination of six million Jews and millions of others. It would seem, that like the Nazis, Assad is attempting to conceal his killing machine and to destroy evidence, and our conduct only emboldens this murderous tyrant. The ADC has previously called on the international community to speak out against this evil, and we now urge the USA and other nations to destroy this crematoria, and to send a message that the civilised world will no longer close its eyes to this ongoing slaughter. Moreover, President Assad must be charged in the International Court of Justice with crimes against humanity, and every measure must be taken to put an end to the killing spree unfolding before our very eyes. This responsibility falls to each one of us, and we must not be silent in the face of such cruelty.”
